skinny teacher cards…

Tomorrow is the last day of school for Zach and as I was putting together the gift for his teacher it occurred to me that I forgot to share these little mini cards here on my blog.  I blogged about them a couple of weeks ago over on the Doodlebug blog and totally spaced sharing them here!  So it’s likely I’m too late to share this idea for many of you to use it for teacher cards…but you could totally use the same idea for ANY type of card.

I wanted a “skinny” card, so I just cut a couple of the create-a-card cards (from Doodlebug) right in half!

the proof is in the can…

my_trash_can

…the garbage can, that is.  It’s been a crazy, stressful, deadline-filled week…and it’s not even close to being over!  As you may have guessed by this peek into my office garbage can – diet coke is definitely my go-to stress reliever, anxiety corrector, late-night work companion, and just plain yummy drink.

And on top of all the work stuff, there’s a ton of kid stuff going on this week too (gotta love how much gets crammed into the last couple of weeks of school – concerts and meetings and tests and activities and parties).  And I’ve been fighting some type of sinus “thing” for a couple of weeks.  I can’t decide if it’s a cold or allergies or what, but it’s NOT fun, and it’s NOT going away!  I actually took some benadryl pills yesterday to see if they would help.  I don’t think they helped my sinuses, but they made me super sleepy…and I actually fell asleep early – really early – and slept all night…which is great except that means I have that much more work to make up today.  sigh.  better go crack open a diet coke – oh, wait, I already did. ;)

Hello Summer!! It’s an Echo Park Blog Hop…

Good Morning!  Today the Echo Park Paper Design Team is showcasing projects from the "Hello, Summer" collection.

Hello-Summer-DT-Blog-Hop-Graphic

I wanted to share this quick little “thanks” card I put together using just a few of the fun papers and sticker embellishments from the “Hello Summer” line.

ep_hellosummer_card_wendysue

Of course I had to use some fun pop dots behind those cute cloud stickers – just to add a bit of dimension…and the same goes for the sun and “thanks” circle.  Check out that cute pink banner.  I hand cut that baby from the patterned paper – it was easy and since I was using it for a card, I just snipped it in half and doubled it up to make it into TWO banners!

tell me what you see…

flowers_from_zach_vase

I bet if you’re a mom to a little boy you see a beautiful bouquet of flowers – lovingly selected and picked with care (roots and all).  I bet if you’re a mom you can imagine grubby little hands with dirty fingernails and the sweetest, most innocent and pure, smile conceivable as he proudly presents his thoughtful gift.

I bet if you’re a mom you couldn’t imagine a more perfect offering.  I bet if you’re a mom you understand why a simple gift of what you once thought of as only “weeds” could bring tears to your eyes, create a lump in your throat, and make your heart swell with love.

I bet if you’re a mom you know exactly what I’m talking about and, if only for this reason –this moment, you are thankful for gifts that grow with abandon in an empty lot next door…and a little boy who has such a sweet, pure, giving heart…and moments that remind you of how lucky you are to be a mom.  his mom.  I bet.

mother’s day…

I had a wonderful Mother’s Day – and I was completely spoiled by my sweet kiddos and dear husband.

mothers_day_2012a

I love that Mother’s Day is on Sunday – no pressure to go out and do anything big…just relax and enjoy everything about being a mom. :)

I sure love these kiddos – and I’m grateful every single day that I get to be their mom!

Speaking of Mother’s Day…Have you seen Echo Park’s new “Dearest” collection?

I just love it and couldn’t wait to create a beautiful Mother’s Day card with it!

Of course, there was stitching involved…

ep_dearest_card_detail2_wendysue

And inked edges with my very favorite new (okay, it’s not so new, I’ve had it for about a month and used it on almost every project since I bought it) ink – attic dust!

I know Mother’s Day is over, but if you like this collection, snatch it up and get a jump start on next year’s cards!  OR use it to scrapbook the photos you took on Sunday! :)

what’s up…

I mentioned earlier that I was invited to be a guest on the BasicGrey blog for NSD – and I showed you a little peek of my layout.  Hopefully you were able to pop over and see my challenge – and all of the other fun challenges as well.  Now that the NSD festivities are over, I thought I’d share my entire layout!

I was sent the entire “What’s Up” collection to use for my project.  I just loved the soft colors and beautiful hot air balloons and sky images.

I felt like this collection was made for these photos I took at Lagoon last summer.

These flags are my favorite embellishment in the entire line.

…but the flair stickers are a VERY close second on my favorite list!

The kids hopped on this ride, “The Turn of the Century” just as the sun was setting – which made the colors so pretty and warm…

Of course, I had to add plenty of machine stitching too…
